LASIK POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTION
(After Hours Emergency phone number: 949-683-4758)
Please advise us of any drug allergies you may have.
Using your eye drops:
Start on the day after your procedure and continue for 5 days total
1. Antibiotic: 1 drop four times a day.
2. Steroid: 1 drop four times a day
3. Artificial Tears 1 drop four to six times a day or more frequently if your eyes feel dry.
Some eye drops may sting for up to two minutes or cause temporary blurred vision. Chilling all of your eye drops in your refrigerator may help make them less irritating.
How to use eye drops:
• Wash your hands before administration of eye drop medications.
• Do not touch the eye dropper, or let dropper touch your eye.
• Shake eye drops well before using.
• Tilt your head back, gazing upward and pull down on lower eyelid, making a pouch.
• Place dropper directly over eye and administer prescribed number of drops.
• Do not rinse the eye dropper.
• WAIT 1 minute between every eye drop administered.
Other Considerations:
Wear your protective eye shields (provided in your kit) from the time of your surgery until you wake up the next morning. These should be worn for a total of five nights to prevent accidental rubbing of your eyes or pressure while you sleep.
You may take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as Tylenol or Tylenol PM. If you prefer, our staff would be pleased to call your pharmacy for a prescription-grade pain reliever.
• For the first 4-12 hours after the procedure it is normal for your eyes to be blurry and to experience tearing, burning and light sensitivity.
• It is recommended to rest and try to keep your eyes closed as much as possible.
• Do not rub your eyes following surgery for the first week.
• No strenuous physical activity the days of your surgery.
• It is OK to shower, but try to avoid getting shower water in your eyes for two weeks following surgery.
• Try to stay away from smoke, dusty areas or chemical vapors for one week following LASIK.
• Wear your sunglasses with 100% UVA and UVB protection whenever you are outside.
• Do not swim in pool, ocean, or use hot tubs, steam baths, or saunas for one month after surgery.
