LASIK Myths & Facts
LASIK
Myths
LASIK
Facts
There are a lot of LASIK myths out there, and at times it can be difficult to
separate fact from fiction, so Dr. Alexandra is here to set the record straight!
Show all Facts
MYTH - Recovery from LASIK takes a long time.
FACT - Most patients notice an immediate improvement in their vision after surgery. The following day, vision is further improved, often dramatically. In most cases, patients can return to work the day after the procedure.
Top
MYTH - LASIK doesn't treat astigmatism.
FACT - LASIK treats astigmatism extremely well. In fact, those who have LASIK to correct astigmatism often have a better quality of vision after surgery than before with glasses or contacts..
Top
MYTH - LASIK is still new and there aren't any long term result.
FACT - Research has shown that LASIK is an effective way to treat common refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, with over 20 years of proven results. During that time, over 35 million procedures have been performed worldwide..
Top
MYTH - LASIK patients have trouble with their night vision.
FACT - In the past, night time vision complaints (glare and halos) were a common side-effect following LASIK surgery. However, the latest advances in Custom Wavefront technology have minimized the risks of developing these side-effects.
Top
MYTH - My prescription needs to be stable before having LASIK.
FACT - Many people believe they are not good candidates for LASIK because their prescriptions may not have stabilized. In fact, past changes in prescription are not a good predictor of future changes and it does not help deliver more predictable or safer results. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for LASIK is to undergo a FREE consultation.
Top
MYTH - I'm too old to have LASIK.
FACT - Over 99% of patients are between 18-70 years of age. There are effective treatments for patients who wear reading glasses, and even people over 70 may be candidates following cataract surgery.
Top
MYTH - LASIK is painful.
FACT - Dr. Alexandra's patients say they feel little or no pain and often tell us their worries were unnecessary. That's because we give you eye drops that numb the eye and give you a high degree of comfort.
Top
MYTH - LASIK is a luxury I can't afford.
FACT -LASIK is an investment that can actually save you money. When you factor in what you're already spending on glasses, contacts and solution every year, LASIK is an affordable solution.
Top
MYTH - LASIK is too risky.
FACT - LASIK is widely regarded as one of the safest elective procedure in modern medicine. It also yields some of the highest levels of patient satisfaction of any procedure according to results of a worldwide study printed in a 2009 issue of Ophthalmology.
Top
MYTH - Glasses and contacts are just as good.
FACT - Think of some of the moments you've missed when you didn't have your corrective lenses on. LASIK can give you clear vision – all the time. Glasses and contacts also don't do a very good job of correcting astigmatism, so those who have LASIK to correct astigmatism often have a better quality of vision after surgery than before with corrective lenses.
